DIY No-Sew Bench Cushion from Isabelle LaRue

DIY No-Sew Bench Cushion from Isabelle LaRue

Isabelle LaRue from Engineer Your Space returns for one last DIY project, a no-sew bench cushion!

I'm not much of a sewer so when I needed to make a bench cushion for my banquette bench, I decided to go with this no-sew alternative that's easy and quick. My kind of project!

What you'll need: 2" foam (I used a bread knife to cut it) and 1/4" plywood cut the same size as your bench top (I had this done at the hardware store) , batting, fabric (I used canvas drop cloth).

Step 1: Cut your fabric so that it's 3.5" wider than the plywood, and the batting so that it's 2" wider than the plywood.

Step 2: Staple the fabric to the plywood, starting from the middle, pulling tightly and smoothing out the fabric as you go.

Step 3: Remove the excess fabric at the corners, and use a screwdriver to help get a nice sharp crease.

Step 4: To prevent the cushion from moving on the bench, I had originally used 3M command strips but after discovering Repositionable dots from Glue Dots, I gave that a try and with a few dots on the back of the plywood, the cushion stays put!

This cushion made my bench so comfy and it's now the most comfortable place to sit in my dining room!
